An alternative to the zoo is a visit of Eutin Castle. But this means you have to get up early, because the castle opens its gates for us one hours before their official opening time. The building consists of four wings and was originally a medieval fortress that was turned into a residence over several centuries. In the end, the castle served as summer residence for the Dukes of Oldenburg, who lived here regularly until the 20th century. It survived both world wars without many damages and the original interior has been preserved in large parts. The former baroque garden was converted into a landscape park during the 18th and 19th century.
